Tell us about Spearity. What sets it apart?

Spearity helps leaders that want to develop a leadership program, build future leaders, and develop talent at every level of their organization. We focus on 3 main areas: 1) Core Competencies 2) Measurable Processes, and 3) Repeatable Habits. We meet with our clients on an ongoing basis and help them grow and develop. Not only do we work with leaders, but their direct reports as well. This helps us develop the entire team and have open and honest communication between all parties.

What sets us apart is our custom app and process, gives leaders a tangible list of tasks to complete each day to stay on track. It only takes 5 minutes a day to check in on the app, but it helps hold leaders accountable for their actions and the results are transparent to not only us and our client, but their team as well. Many of clients comment that the app asks as a safety blanket when things get hectic. This tool allows them to stay organized and focus on the most critical tasks.

Why did you start Spearity?

I was working as an IT consultant and realized that what organizations really need is leadership development. I’ve always had an entrepreneurial spirit and decided I wanted to help organizations with their big ideas and not just the day-to-day.

What kind of clients do you typically work with?

We work with leaders of all shapes and sizes.  Some of our larger clients include Manpower, Sargento, Children’s Hospital, and Milwaukee Rescue Mission, but we also work with solo entrepreneurs as well.

What have been some of your biggest successes?

In terms of achievements, we recently won the Member of the Year award at the Celebration of Growth event hosted by Scale Up Milwaukee. Additionally, we’ve gone from 2 to 50 clients in just three years. We recently helped one of our leaders become CEO of his company. Throughout that process, he was able to increase his company’s revenue and profitability by over 25%. I have to say, our biggest success is when we have our clients tell us that we have not only improved their business, but their marriage and life.

What is the biggest challenge you face?

Getting people to stick with the process. We are very good at getting clients to buy in and follow our methodology for quite some time and see real results. However, some clients feel that once they have achieved their goals or seen a certain amount of progress that the process we teach them is now ingrained in them and they no longer need to follow the physical steps.

What is a common misconception people have about Spearity?

That we can’t handle large companies. We’ve worked with organizations of any size and can work with any type of client or business.

What is one thing you’d like to see change in the Milwaukee startup scene?

I’d like to see a more thriving entrepreneurial ecosystem and I’d like to see more diverse participation. There is a huge pool of talent in Milwaukee that is not able or willing to be a part of the startup environment.

What do you do for fun outside of work?

I have a wife, 4 kids, and just got a new dog named Charlie! I love spending time with them and being involved with my kids.

I also love to travel. I went to Ireland this past summer and am planning a trip to Portland and Africa in the near future. I like reading, outdoor activities, swimming, and anything having to do with speed!
